Personally Identifiable Information (PII)

Personally Identifiable Information (PII) is defined as any information that can be used to trace or distinguish a participant’s identity. PII is any information that is linked or linkable to a participant, such as their medical, financial, educational or employment information.

PII is normally collected as a part of the entry process for sweepstakes, raffles, and contests. It also may be collected from the giveaway winners as a part of the winner verification process.

Examples of PII typically collected from participants include name, home address, social security number, mobile phone number, email address, driver’s license, passport number, social media handle/alias, IP address or MAC address, photographic images.
