The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is a government agency that regulates business practices and enforces antitrust laws.
In the context of sweepstakes, contests, and raffles, the FTC is responsible for enforcing the no purchase necessary laws, that apply to all sweepstakes, and consumer protection laws that apply to all promotions.
According to the FTC, Sponsors that advertise promotions are required to inform consumers of the following: the nature and value of the prizes, that the promotion is free to enter, and the terms and conditions to meet in order to redeem the prize.
The FTC also requires sweepstakes Sponsors to disclose that the sweepstakes is free to enter on all marketing materials sent via U.S. mail or via the internet.
